We hiked up Mount Vesuvius, the famous volcano that buried Pompeii in volcanic ash in 79 A.D. Once at the top, we looked into the crater and saw that all was quiet. Vesuvius is still an active volcano, but current technology allows scientists to predict when it will erupt around two weeks prior. Mount Vesuvius is located in the Campania region of Italy overlooking the Bay of Naples as well as the city of Napoli.
