Description
I’m quite happy with this piece. The painting process continues to be a bit frustrating. I guess I am like Sizuki’s “worst horse” or the artist in the city of Kouroo described by Thoreau. When I’m painting I lose all track of time — a wonderful state of mind to experience. It seems I learn new things every time I pick up a paint brush or lift up my Apple Pencil. Some of those things are even related to painting, but must relate to the subject that I have stumbled into painting. For example, every part of the rhododendron is poisonous, even smoke from burning its branches. Who ever even considered eating any parts of a rhododendron??!! Did you know that some rhododendron trees can grow up to 80 feet in height? Also, the rhododendron is also known as the Alpine Rose.
But, mostly its about colors, shapes and edges and the ability to see what is there. An ordinary rhododendron is a great opportunity for the artist to sharpen his powers of observation. Now to go see what’s been going on in the world while I’ve been lost in this painting.
