Description
White water lilies and glistening lily pads, floating on clear blue pond water, are positively brilliant as they shimmer in beautiful morning spring sunshine.
This image was captured at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in northwest Florida, outside Tallahassee, on the Gulf of Mexico. This Gulf coast national park is not only home to a wide variety of wildlife and birds, both residents and migratory visitors, but also to wonderful flora, as well.
Water lilies became an iconic image and favorite subject for art and photography after French Impressionist painter Claude Monet, who was also a master gardener, conceived and created his Japanese Gardens at his Giverny home, and in his later years, painted a series of famous works featuring his pond with floating liles and beautiful surrounding flowers, trees, and shrubs, and the familiar greenish turquoise arched bridge.
