Moonlit Colorado Dreamscape
In my view, Ice Lake Basin is one of the prettiest areas in Colorado. Between the clear blue waters of the mountain lakes and the plethora of wildflowers, it's nothing less than stunning. So when I had the chance to go up this summer to capture some great nightscape images, I didn't hesitate. And with the moonlight not quite what I wanted on my first trek up there, I decided to return so I could get it right. Results like this help to confirm that I'm sure glad I went back!
How I Got The Shot
Gentle light from rising moon was required for this shot so I had to make sure to time my hike to Island Lake in Ice Lake Basin near Silverton, Colorado when the moon would cooperate. To get there, a pretty big hike is needed (at least by my standards) and at night, this means an overnight in a tent. Once the moon was in the right position to cast its light on the area, I captured a sequence of images with varied focus so I could get everything from the flowers to the stars with sharp details. In post-processing, I used Star Spikes Pro to add the spikes onto the lone bright star up in the sky.
