Description
Between conquering the air and reaching a detente with the sea was the era of the iron horse. This too was an evolution and progress of technology, from the small single man clankers of the 1800s and on. But when you come up close to one of these evolved beasts and realize the magnitude of their sheer size and weight; when you contemplate the audacity of pressurizing a water tank to 200 psi of scalding steam AND mounting it to steel wheels and rolling it down thousands of miles of track you can't help but question how it came to be. Was it ignorance, lack of fear, or confidence in the dawning of man's domination of physical engineering?
Regardless, this shot continues the series of the contrast between the human machine, delicate and organic vs the human-made machine, a fierce brute of fire and ore.
