The beach in Monterroso in the Cinque Terre region of Italy is quiet in the early morning hours. Of the five Cinque Terre towns, Monterosso al Mare is the most touristed since it boasts a proper beach and is home to several larger, fancier hotels. From Monterosso, you can easily hop onto the hiking trails along the coast line, heading either NW to Levanto or SE to Vernazza. Here we are at the start of the trail to Vernazza. Cinque Terre is a string of five centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of Italy. In each of the five towns of the region, colorful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces and fishing boats bob in harbors. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
