Painting - Watercolor On Paper
Description
This was a very fun piece to paint. I was going to go in and add some really dark red and black shadow areas to add depth to the flower but instead opted to keep it as more of a value study utilizing a single pigment. The flower is painted solely with Winsor & Newton Permanent Rose while the background is simply Daniel Smith Rare Earth and Bronzite. The original is 9.75"x13.75" on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper.

Great Job! It's very delicate and has a powerful composition.

Thank you Kim! I was very close to going in and adding some really dark shadow areas but ultimately decided to leave it as a single pigment flower.

I cannot believe you painted that flower with simply permanent rose....very nice work...the value shifts are wonderful......
Ken Powers replied:
Thanks Sandra! It almost gives the flower a surreal vibe I think. It is as if something is missing but the values are correct so it still looks like a flower. Interesting effect I think.

Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Bette! It was fun to only use one color to achieve that. A little different for me!

Thank you Susan! This was a fun one but it really ended up more as a value study.
