Description
"Do I have something on my face?" said the messy Monarch. Monarch caterpillars eat Milkweed plants, but grown Monarch butterflies get to enjoy a variety of delicious meals from various flowers. Most adult butterflies drink nectar from flowers through their tongues, which function much like straws. If you look closely here you can see this one's proboscis
(The coiled tube through which adult butterflies and moths imbibe nectar and other fluids.) But what is all over this one's face and upper wings and body? Pollen!
Butterflies are generally not built for pollination, with their slender legs and elevated bodies, but they do transport some pollen as they flit from flower to flower in search of nectar. This Monarch must have really been enjoying the flower he was sipping from because he is covered with pollen! It reminds me of my grand daughter when she was young!

Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
