Title
Mayapple In Dappled Forest Light

Description
From April into May, the unique leaf of the mayapple is a common sight along the trails in the Thompson Wildlife Management Area on Blue Mountain in Linden, Virginia. When the single white flower blooms, it will be beneath the canopy of the large, multi-lobed leaf, usually hanging with its face looking down toward the forest floor. The little flower is delicate and pretty, but the big leaves are quite a site, in many places spreading out as far as you can see. I thought the dappled sunlight made a pretty pattern of light and shadow.
