Maria De Egipto
Digital Art - Contemporary Digital Art
Mary of Egypt or Holy Egyptian Mary was an ascetic who retired to the desert after a life of prostitution. She is venerated as patron of penitent women, especially in the Coptic Church, but also in the Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican Church.
Saint Mary was born somewhere in Egypt, and at twelve she escaped to the city of Alexandria, where she lived a dissolute life. Many writings refer to her as a prostitute during this period, but she often refused to accept the money offered for her sexual favors. It was, as driven by "an insatiable desire and an unstoppable passion."
When he tried to enter the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, an invisible force prevented him from doing so. Aware that this strange phenomenon was because of its impurity, he felt a strong remorse, and prayed for forgiveness and promised to renounce the world, that is, to become an ascetic.
