Magic In The Mountains
Photograph - Digital Photography
There are only about 45 days out of the entire year that the Milky Way is in this position over Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. Now take into consideration the phases of the moon, work schedules and weather and realistically I was down to about 3 days. I had just got back from teaching a workshop in Moab, Utah and after checking the weather I knew that this was really my only night of the year to capture this. I took a couple friends along because even though the hike is short, there was still quite a bit of slick snow on the trial. We arrived at this vantage point at 1am and watched the Milky Way rise into position while the moon was setting. See the shadow on the mountain, that's light from the moon that is setting to my right. I used a double fog filter to enhance the brighter stars in the orig capture. Because I knew this was my only chance, I took extra precautions to make sure everything was perfect and that I was not making mistakes. So far this is my favorite image of 2018. If you would like this as a large 32x48 Canvas please let me know as I can offer it to you for $319 if you live in the USA. Contact me directly please.
