Description
Hikes along the coastlines in New Zealand are often dependent on the tides. What is possible at low tide isn’t always possible at high time. So you have to study the tide charts and schedule accordingly! On the return hike back to Lee Bay from Port William hut on Steward Island, the sun was finally shining and only the remnants of high tide remained on Maori Beach with small streams trickling down the beach slope. During low tide you can choose your path along the beach or through the bush, while at high tide you have to take the high tide path above through the bush.
