Description
Glorious green thrives in the midst of the rocks of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA.
Down in this Southwest landscape, not a lot of greenery grows, and there is little to see among the rocks. But this one, lone tree is determined to grow and set forth its greenery, drawing the eye of passers by and inviting them to step closer and join it in its incredible view.
On the Edge is an encouragement and a reminder to us that, though we sometimes feel very alone and isolated in what we are doing, our sheer determination to be where we are and bloom there is not unseen nor unnoticed. The tree in On the Edge is one of the few and far between, and for that reason, its greenery and its shape stand out and call out.
In the midst of a forest, the individual tree is rarely noticed because it fits in so well with the rest of the group. And while there are times that it is positive to be part of a group ā because a number of people, working together without egos or greed involved, can do much that a single individual could not do ā at other times, it is necessary that we take some steps alone, and trust that we are not truly alone when we do so.
It is times like this that we are like the tree in the artwork, On the Edge, and rather than droop in discouragement because we are not in the midst of the forest, maybe this is time to stand tall, to set forth our branches strongly and with confidence, and to call out our song at the edge of the banks ā āLook at the beauty of the canyon surrounding us! Stop what you are doing and join me in this incredible place!ā
Perhaps itās a lot to put on a tree, but then again, the natural world is an excellent teacher for those who stop to look around them, observe the beauty, and think on what they see.

Beautiful! Trees are tree-t for me. One of my favorite things about the Grand Canyon south rim, is all the marvelous trees that line the rim, and down the cliffs. It affords me many opportunities to photograph looking through the trees, as though peering into a secret world. I do like the way they grow on the edge, as in your painting. In fact I posted one by the same name. I love all the beautiful colors, and the way the tree is lit, creating beautiful shadows on the rocky soil. Well done, Steve! LF

Steve Henderson replied:
That this painting and its description so touched your soul truly touches mine. Thank you for revisiting and spending time with the words behind the painting. These words are not put together lightly but are a result of many years swimming against the flow, and in that, growing stronger and having our vision of what and who we are growing clearer. Take courage, Drasko, you are on a great journey.
