Description
This beautiful stone church on Mackinac Island is a treat for the senses both from the wonderful stone exterior to the beautiful wooden beams inside.
The Little Stone Church, which is The Union Congregational Church began its formation in 1899 and was know then as the Union Church Society.
In 1904 Deacons S.B. Poole and J.M. Leggett began setting the cornerstones of the church with local stones.
Asbury W. Buckley of Chicago was the architect of the church, and a local builder named Frank Rounds, along with his workers, gathered fieldstones to construct the church.
The three stained glass windows represent scenes in the history of Mackinac Island, which I find quite inspiring!
You'll find this church on your way too and from the Grand Hotel. It is a must see whether just for a glance or to attend the regular Sunday services.
It is set in such an idyllic setting, looking out from above, onto the straits of Mackinac! Such a beauty!
