Description
The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montreal is a luxury hotel that opened in 1912, the first in North America to take the famous Ritz-Carlton name. It was licensed by Cesar Ritz, the founder of the upscale hotel chain, who was the youngest of thirteen children in a peasant family that lived in a small village in the Swiss Alps. He worked his way up as a waiter, restaurant manager, and hotelier, eventually founding his own line of luxurious hotels known for their high class cuisine and elegant accomodations. The Ritz Carlton Montreal has hosted many rich and famous people, including guests such as Queen Elizabeth II, Charles de Gaulle, Richard Nixon, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, George Bush Sr, the Rolling Stones and Céline Dion. It was also the site of Elizabeth Taylor's wedding to Richard Burton. This photo was taken in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is a portrait photograph showing the blue and gold Ritz-Carlton sign with its iconic lion emblem.
