Description
The Galapagos Islands are known more for the wildlife and not for the landscapes. However, the exception would Bartolome Islet, the most photographed island in the Galapagos. Bartolome Island used to be a volcano, emerging from the sea between 1.5 to 2 million years ago. Today Bartolome is uninhabited but there are two landing possibilities for visitors. One landing spot leads up the 600 m trail to the 144 m summit. Along the way, you walk through variety of red, orange, green, and glistening black volcanic formations. And as you get higher, you get to look down on the surreal landscape for a totally different perspective. UNESCO declared the Galapagos a Natural Heritage Site for Humanity in 1978, and the Galapagos National Park a Biosphere Reserve in 1984.
