Description
It is fascinating to watch these incredible mammals in their natural environment. Being a
Florida girl, of course I have been to Sea World, but seeing the Orca in the Ocean is the ticket! I have seen quite a few whales in Alaska now, normally while having a fishing pole in my hand or speeding through the water in a boat, and rarely can I grab my camera to get any shots. Today we were able to stop and watch for a while on our way back in. Although I didn't get any breaching shots, it was still fun too shoot.
Killer Whales or Orcas are toothed whales and the largest member of the Dolphin Family. They are at the top of the food chain and hunted by no other animal (other than humans).
Orcas are meat eaters, but not the killers they are made out to be. The are very social, very complex mammals who have their own civilizations under the sea!
