Keenan Fountain In Boyd Plaza
Artist

Description
Apollo's Cascade, by Robert Carroll, sits in the middle of the Keenan fountain that adorns Boyd Plaza in front of The Columbia Museum of Art in Columbia, South Carolina.
For this shot I used a technique known as 'light painting'.
I set the camera on a tripod and set the shutter for somewhere around one minute or so (if I remember correctly) and used a remote release to fire the shutter. (to insure there was no 'camera shake'.)
I then took a bright hand held strobe to the edges of the peripheral of the lens and fired it a few times on each side. This added enough fill light to make the subject ---as well as the “pavement”---visible.
It is interesting that other photographers might think the photograph was made during what is known as the 'blue hour'. Yet I assure you that the image was made well after dark.
It was the 'light pollution' from the city that produced just enough light to give the sky that deep rich blue tone.
