I have a fantastic couple who commission wonderful pieces of art from me. They are the collectors of many of my pieces including “Rim to Rim, The Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA”
They enjoy hiking in the canyon, and camping next to the Colorado river. One night they heard noises which scared Karyn half to death. When she looked up at the North Rim Lodge, a feeling of security and warmth passed through her. When she returned with hubby in hand to Kentucky, she asked me to paint this piece for her.
I have painted night pieces before, but this one was a bit challenging. To add more light, I included the milky way to the piece. I could not find a reference image which included the milky way while looking into the sky from the bottom of the canyon facing north…so I had to guesstimate. If any astrological geniuses or Grand Canyon camping aficionados say “no way the Milky Way looks like that looking into the sky from the bottom of the canyon facing north”…I raise my hands in guilt while pointing out I am just an artist ( grin)…
