Description
This sweet little bird is a Dark-eyed Junco and it decided to sit in a tree branch close by me where I was out bird watching. I like the way the one branch is in a triangular form framing the bird in a way. The Fall leaves surrounding it gives a little color to the image as well.
Dark-eyed Juncos (Junco hyemalis) are abundant and widespread in the United States. They winter in semi-open habitats near forests and woodlands. They actually have become a stationary bird in California. They mostly forage on the ground and eat seeds and insects. They are songbirds and nest on the ground in hidden areas. Fun fact is they are also called Snowbirds because they usually show up in the winter time in other states and really stand out when the ground is covered in snow.
