Description
The self-titled album Joe Satriani is the sixth studio album by the American guitarist, composer, songwriter and musician. Released in October 1995 the album reached #51 on the US Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for seven weeks as well as reaching the top 100 in four other countries. The single “You Are My World” scored a #30 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Chart and received a nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1997 Grammy Awards. Satriani usually produced his own albums but this one showcased a more relaxed, bluesy sound with less effects and overdubs thanks to producer Glyn Johns. Other artists produced by Johns included Led Zeppelin, The Who and The Rolling Stones.
Joe Satriani was inspired to play guitar at age 14, after hearing of the death of Jimi Hendrix. Early in his career he worked as a guitar instructor. Many of his former students went on to achieve fame including Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, David Bryson, Kevin Cadogan and Larry LaLonde. Since becoming a solo artist in 1978 he has received 15 Grammy Award nominations, sold over ten million albums, making him the best selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time and earning him accolades as on of the finest guitar players in the industry.
