Description
The James River is a river in the U.S. state of Virginia. It forms in the Appalachian Mountains, from the confluence of the Cowpasture and Jackson rivers, and flows into the Chesapeake Bay passing by Jamestown. It is 348 miles long. The Blue Ridge Parkway James River Visitor Center is a great place to stop and take in the surrounding beauty of the River as it flows through the Blue Ridge. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs for 469 miles (755 km) through twenty-nine Virginia and North Carolina counties, mostly along the Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain that is part of the Appalachian Mountains.
