Painting - Watercolor On Paper
Description
This piece was painted while I was having a computer disaster, bronchitis, and sick kids. I wanted to experiment a bit and create something that was a bit more abstract than my previous work. When the work was finished, I was literally on my way to the garbage can when my wife stopped me and said to not throw it away as she found it "interesting." As my wife-translator doesn't exactly know how to decipher this description and the term was used a couple more times to describe the painting, I decided to keep it. The original is 16"x12" in size and is painted entirely with Sennelier watercolor paints on Sennelier paper. This paper really allows the paint pigment to flow which seems to create some interesting textures and effects.

Hey Ken, Great work as usual. You put me to shame with my low production. Thanks I am back painting between road trips. William
Ken Powers replied:
Thanks William! Glad to hear you are going to be able to start painting a bit more!

Ken, You do such beautiful and interesting work with flowers. Its always a pleasure to look at your work. I need to take some time to walk through your entire gallery as its been awhile. But, I really love all of your work. I can't believe you commented (positively, at least--ha) on my painting of roses-----that piece was lying around and I tried to improve it, am very dissatisfied with it. I find it hard to believe you could find anything nice to say about it, but thank you anyhow. smile
Ken Powers replied:
You are too kind Diane! It is always fun to peruse everyone's galleries on this site. As I am often displeased with my own work (we are always our own worst critics), I love to find inspiration in the work of others. You have a lot of great pieces in your gallery and I am flattered you took the time to view mine.

Tell us more about the Senelier paper, Ken. What a gorgeous painting!!!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Donna! That paper is interesting. The cold-presses has a bit less tooth than the Arches. It seems to allow for more fluidity and pigment dispersion. Pretty cool!

This is fantastic Ken! Honestly, what were you thinking to carry this to the trash? I would love to see more works like this, and I'm sure your fans, collectors and friends would too!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Anita! Perhaps it was my current bout with bronchitis that was clouding my judgement. I am still trying to shake it!

This could be one of my favorites of all your flowers. Well, the yellow rose is exquisite, but this one really sings Ken. Glad your wife stopped you!

I agree with all above. It would have been a great loss had you reached the rubbish bin.Sacrilege. I love this - its a really good end product - I think you achieved your goal on this. Amazingly how one fails to step back with a detached view of their own paintings. Others see the glory at once. Thank you for your comments on Distant Tor
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Sibby! You are absolutely right. While one is painting a piece it is so easy to get absorbed in the minuscule up close bits of the painting. It is only when one can step back and take in the big picture that the true beauty can be revealed.

I agree with Betty...what in the world were you thinking??? This is a real gem!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Marsha! It took a drastic turn and almost went a bit too abstract for my taste.

Why on earth would you want to trash this beauty, Ken?! You must have been really sick!! This is a beautiful painting and I really like the play of sharp contrast between light and shadow and soft and hard - lovely! I just don't know what you men would do with us - ha ha!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Bette! I am still really sick and you are absolutely right....I don't know what we men would do without you ladies!
