Description
This painting is called In The Haberdashery. My Nana was a great seamstress with my Gt Grandmother a seamstress for Queen Victoria. Nana's stitches were dainty, invisible things and should make anything. Where we lived as I grew up, she was would enter competitions making dolls clothes. She won a few.
My love was the haberdasheries. FULL to the brim with ribbon and lace and materials of all kinds. I used to run my hand over the satins and velvets and dream of being a princess in ballgowns. I had a ballgown from when my Gt Aunt was a debutante in London. She gave me her coming out dress to play princess in. Oh that dress was glorious. The haberdashery offered even more and, if I fell in love with chiffon or silk, Nana would purchase some to add to my dressing up chest.
This painting is a memory from 'In The Haberdashery' I hope you enjoy it
