Description
We all know what Santa does on Christmas Eve, December 24, but what does he do during the rest of the year?
There are only so many cookies a man can eat, only so much time he can sit in a rocking chair and look through a list. Santa is an active man, a man of purpose and creativity, and it makes sense that â during much of his time â he works and creates and makes beautiful things.
And so we find him In the Workshop.
Focused and intent, Santa enjoys the hours he spends with tools in hand, lovingly working with wood, fabric, paint and more as he fashions special, beautiful toys for the boys and girls of the world. Standing for hours, sanding and sawing and planing â these activities are those of an active man, and such is Santa.
He is moving, working, creating, thinking, doing, but not in the manner expected by the corporate world, which rewards busyness without rest (and creativity), for the sole and primary purpose of creating a profit for shareholders. Santaâs work is work at its best: work that is also play, because it involves not only his physical energy but his mind as well. Work, good work, satisfying work, requires both.
Good work also requires that the end result of all that energy be good, and this is so with with what Santa makes and does. His finished toys, each held in his hands, are destined for a special child, and his warm wishes and loving thoughts go into all of his creations.
Because thatâs what makes the perfect gift: warm wishes and loving thoughts, regardless of what the gift is. (And that is something all of us, though we are not Santa, can give.)
Enter into Santaâs workshop, and enter into a world of joyful work.

Your Santa series takes me back to my familiar of the magic of Norman Rockwell but YOUR work keeps THE ADULT me in the moment while the little child within me SEES this and truly BELIEVES!! This Santa is real and grounded in the workshops of my pepere (who was a master carpenter) and of my best friendâs husband, Joe, who makes bird and birdhouse ornaments and gives them away to grocery store clerks and library and doctor staff, etc... yes, Santa is very much ALIVE in my heArt, my life and my belief system! You snuck in a painted him...Steve, Do I detect a bit of the artist behind those whiskers? Ho, ho, ho! L/F
Steve Henderson replied:
Thank you for your thoughtful comment and insight, Laurel. We made a very definitive, decisive move toward a "real life" Santa, one that lives, breathes, works, laughs like we mortals do. As much as I admire the Santa images through the ages, we wanted to get away from the commercial Santa, the cartoony Santa, the sometimes goofy Santa, the sometimes scary, serious Santa. The idea, purpose, spirit behind Santa is honorable and worthy of a child's adoration -- and adult's. And in that spirit, yes, I wish to make Santa very touchable, very real, very understanding.

Your series on Christmas stands shoulder to shoulder with the brilliance of Norman Rockwell's work.. only more touching to the hearts of the viewers. I admire your putting your heart and talent in each creation. F/L
