This friendly iguana is looking out for you! Iguanas are a large, docile species of omnivorous lizard (Order:Squamata, Family:Iguanidae) native to central and south America, and the Caribbean. This one lives in Baja California Sur, Mexico on an oceanfront cliff and loves to munch on handouts of lettuce. Its pose clearly shows the mouth, nose, eye, and ear, all senses alert as it wondered if a photographer posed a danger or offered a snack. Iguanas may use visual signals to communicate with other iguanas through a series a rapid eye movements that other iguanas are able to detect easily due to their excellent sight. Despite this, they have been hunted for food and captured as pets.
