Photograph - Macro Photo
This is relatively large snowflake (about 4 millimeters from tip to tip), with simple shape, but complex internal pattern (especially at arms), and with beautiful transparent center. If you look closely at this crystal, you may notice that it slightly resembles triangular snowflakes: like these snow crystals, it have hexagonal symmetry, but with interleaving short / long sides of central hexagon. In this case, however, its triangular structure is hardly noticeable.
Also, you can spot small and simple plate crystal at surface of big snowflake, and this tiny companion also have triangular structure, similar to big brother: with three short and three long sides. This is strange, rare and beautiful couple, in my opinion.
This picture processed from averaged stack of 8 identical photos (averaging process radically treat noise of camera sensor and reveal small and subtle details, which are almost unseen in every single shot, because they masked by noise). Background: dark woolen fabric, natural light from cloudy sky, external optics Helios 44M-5, December 2014, Moscow, Russia.
