Description
These pretty and tiny flowers are Horse Nettle and grow wild in a field meadow near me where I go hiking through frequently. It was a cloudy day when I photographed these and I like the dark tones of the dirt around these flowers which made their beautiful blue lavendar tones stand out. There is a tiny insect on one of them, a type of beetle and make the image more interesting and displays the wild aspect of these flowers.
Horse Nettle wild flowers can keep flowering until October. The technical name of this flower is Solanum carolinense and they are in the Nightshade family. Native Americans had medicinal uses for this plant but it is highly toxic and should be avoided for these reasons.
