Description
I joined the 5-day challenge starting September 6, 2021 and the theme for this challenge was “Architecture”. Here is my Day 5 – A view of a historic Catholic Church in Lindsay, Texas. You can see the spire from the Highway when driving a couple miles away. It is a beautiful building and still in use, set among other church ministry buildings. It is called Saint Peter’s Catholic Church.
Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay, Texas was formed in the late 1800’s by German Catholic settlers and this church building was built by the settlers in 1918 to replace the one that was destroyed by a tornado. They used old windmill towers to be reinforcements in the concrete. The inside has stained glass windows, hand carved altars and beautiful frescoes by artist Fridolin Fuchs. The Architecture of the church is considered as Neo-Romanesque and this church is listed as an official Texas Historical Landmark.
Neo-Romanesque architecture came about around the 19th century informed by the ancient Roman styles. This revivalist type architecture employed more simple arches and windows. You see this design in old Courthouse, Churches and College campuses.
