Description
Hill of Crosses 06. Lithuania.
-----
Among all other definitions Lithuania is often described as the land of crosses. Lithuanians used to make nice carved crosses and put them next to crossroads or in own yards believing that it will protect people. But the most unique thing is the Hill of Crosses. On September 7, 1993, Pope John Paul II visited the Hill of Crosses, declaring it a place for hope, peace, love and sacrifice. These are works of art themselves. Thanks for sharing with us!
Ausra Huntington nee Paulauskaite replied:
You are right Teresa. These wooden carved crosses or metal works of blacksmiths are art themselves. It's been a traditional folk art of Lithuanian people for ages.
