Harris' Antelope Squirrel

Description
One of very few desert mammals apt to be active on a searing summer day, the Harris' antelope squirrel scampers about in the sunshine, stuffing its cheek pouches with seeds while its body temperature climbs to near-lethal levels. It may reach 107 degrees Fahrenheit before the squirrel races off to a shady area where it flops, belly down with legs outstretched, to dump excess body heat into the cool soil. The tail is often held high like a parasol, providing a small patch of mobile shade.
