Happy Independence Day to the U.S.A! This is a photograph of fireworks that I took last year at the lake a few blocks away from us. Lake Nocona is a large lake and every year the Lions Club puts on a beautiful fireworks show over the lake. They did it on Saturday this year and it was just too hot and humid for my husband and I to go this time, so I pulled this image from my archive and edited it this morning for a celebration image. You can see people in their boats watching the show on the water. I hope next year it won’t be so hot, but July in Texas is hot, so I won’t hold my breath on that!
Nocona is a small town in the northwestern region of Texas. It is a considered the Classic Car Capital of Texas as there is a few classic car museums in town and the Great Race makes a stop there some years. It was home to leather boot making and it also has the only baseball glove factory still running in the United States. It has Native American history as well since the 1700’s when several Indian tribes settled around this region. The town’s name came from a Comanche warrior named Peta Nocona. Nocona is on the Chisholm Trail and it holds a rodeo by that name every year. It is a lovely town to visit.
