Description
This pretty butterfly is called a Gulf Fritillary Butterfly and it was enjoying one of my big red Zinnia flowers. I love how some colors on its wing matches the flower tones.
Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae) butterfly. Their wings are long and when open reveal orange and black markings with 3 little white spots at the top of each wing. They are 2.5 to 3 inches in length and are usually seen from August through November in the south and in Texas.
Zinnias come in many colors and shapes and are easy to grow starting in late Spring through Summer. It is said that zinnias symbolize thoughts of friends who are not close by.
