Description
This is a close up of a butterfly called a Gray Ministreak Butterfly. It is resting on a leaf of a Bull Nettle plant. I love the way the antennae and legs of this butterfly are dotted.
Gray Ministreak Butterflies (Ministrymon azia) are very small, less than a half inch to three quarters of an inch in length. They are only seen in four states in the U.S. one of which is Texas where this one is.
Bull Nettle plants (Cnidoscolus texanus ) have needle hairs on them that sting very badly for 30 to 45 minutes if you touch them and some people are highly allergic to the sap in these plants. It is a perennial herbaceous plant and the seeds and taproot are said to be edible. They are also called Texas Bull Nettle, Tread Softly and Spurge Nettle. They are also called Spurge.
