The Palatine Hill is the centermost of the Seven Hills of Rome. It is the “first nucleus of the Roman Empire”. Imperial palaces were built here. It is now an archaeological site open to the public. It overlooks the Forum, the Circus Maximus, and a view to the Aventine Hill. It is said the Romulus, the mythical founder of Rome, and his twin brother Remus lived in a cave called the Lupercal on the Palatine where they were discovered and raised by a she-wolf.
