Who doesn't love a giraffe! The coat pattern of a giraffe is as individual as a fingerprint, and it helps to camouflage them when they stand in the shade of trees. The bony knobs on the head are called ossicones and are skin-covered cartilage. Their purpose isn’t entirely known although they can use them defensively, allowing the animal to deliver a force of impact onto a small area. They also add weight to the head so that when a giraffe swings its head/neck quickly, it can actually knock out large animals.
