Forward To The Foe - The Charge Of General William Barksdale's Mississippi Brigade At Gettysburg
Painting - Oil On Linen Canvas
Confederate Brigadier General William Barksdale on horseback, urging the men of his all Mississippi brigade forward; with hat off, in front of his old regiment, the 13th Mississippi Infantry. General Barksdale's charge destroyed the Union infantry lines along the Emmitsburg Road and Peach Orchard salient. Although Barksdale was mortally wounded in the assault, his fearless attack would go down in history as the "Grandest charge of the entire war."
