Steps led up to the Temple of Mars Ultor, whose facade column fragments are visible. The temple was built after Augustus' victory over the murderers of his uncle Julius Caesar in 42 B.C. The temple was dedicated in AD 2. Built on a raised podium against the back wall of the Forum of Augustus.
