Follow This Bird -- Columbus Discovering America
-- I didn't notice it while photographing the seagulls at sunset near the statue of Columbus at the Port of Barcelona, but while titling this image, I had to think of a story I heard in history class. If I remember it right, Christopher Columbus was actually saved by a group of birds (I guess, also gulls), shortly before discovering America. As he almost got lost and (surely) was right before giving up, he saw them and ordered his men to change direction to follow the birds rather than his chart, thinking that, if there are birds, the land might not be far away.
So, with this story in the background, this colorful image from Barcelona not only becomes one of my personal favorites from my trip to this beautiful spanish city, but also an historic interpretation of the Discovery of America.
With this in mind I could also imagine this photograph from my Travel Collection being the perfect art for the walls of a school, a university, library or any other educational institution. ---
