Title
Fog Rising Mauna Kea
Artist
Heidi Fickinger
Medium
Photograph - Photographic Print
Description
Several times a year snow falls on the high volcanoes of Hawai'i Island. When the snow first blankets Mauna Kea, it is a place of incredible beauty, especially early in the morning. On this morning, the rising sun lights rising fog and casts long shadows from exposed lava rocks.

This is stunning. I had no idea Hawaii's volcanos were this high. I have done a lot of hiking and scrambling at high altitudes in Colorado. Can't believe I never knew this about Hawaii.
Heidi Fickinger replied:
Thank you Jim. Yes, our volcanoes are amazingly high on this Island. Hiking is strenuous, especially since most of it is on a very steep grade, but so very worth it! Aloha

Truly hard to believe this is Hawaii when you look at it. However, I have been to the top of Haleakala where where is snow and it really does become an whole new world. What a remarkable bit of weather happening all in one place. This is just stunning. L/F Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui!
Heidi Fickinger replied:
