Description
This is a collapsed lava tube from an ancient Mt Adams eruption, and is located within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington USA. The area is better known as Natural Bridges for a series of lava spans leftover from the collapse. On USGS grid maps, it's labeled "Big Trench" and is roughly a quarter mile long.
If you look closely you can see that the trench curves to the left where the natural bridges are. I don't have any quality photos of the bridges yet.
For some perspective on the vastness of this trench, look about in the middle of the frame, where you'll see my shooting partner composing his own shots.
