Fields Above Velike Malence
Photograph - Fine Art
Velike Malence is a small hillside farming village on the banks of the Slovenian Krka River near the confluence with the Sava River. My wife and I went walking through the wheat fields above Velike Malence to get some summer evening air. The light was peaceful, soft and warm while the air was cool and fresh with the smell of harvested wheat.
In Slovenian the word "Velike" means Big. The Village had a population of 219 in the year 2002. The term big comes from the fact that there is a smaller village not far away called Mali Valence (Small Valence).
The village church shown in the photograph is dedicated to Saint Martin and belongs to the Parish of Čatež ob Savi. It is a Romanesque building, first mentioned in written documents dating to 1102. It was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century.
