Description
Its springtime here in Northeast Tennessee and that is a busy time for parents building nests, incubating eggs, and then like this male bluebird, busy feeding their young. The female is as busy as the father, also flying back and forth with moths, worms, centipedes to be fed to their hungry young. Bluebirds can spot an insect from about 50 yards away, a remarkable distance. Oftentimes in nature, nests will be abandoned, but generally as far as bluebirds are concerned, this would happen only if the male or female died.
These parents are busy from sunup to sundown and have been doing this for about 4 days now. As fledglings, while still in the nest, they are dependent on the parents for care and food. They will be fledglings for about 10 days, then will be taught to fly. Once they can find food on their own they are considered to be juveniles, when they molt in the fall into their adult plumage, bright blue for males, less colorful, even grayish with muted orange -brownish breast, it is then that they are called adults.
