"Farm Homestead in Early Winter"
Historic Roberts Farm
West Layton, Utah, USA
An early winter's snow squall withdraws from the face of a severe mountain slope after depositing snow on green farmland. This image was captured the first week of December off Angel Street in West Layton, Utah. Newly planted winter wheat had just sprouted on the historic Roberts homestead when the snowstorm appeared.
The contrasts of color captivate the eye; the contrasts of theme engage the heart and mind. The cold, blue sky and shadowy slopes of snow seem to loom over the tranquil farm houses surrounded, ironically, by vibrant green. The cloud and mountain portend a harsh winter, but the hardy sprouts of wheat counter with the promise of spring--a spring in the distant future, certainly; but, after lying under layers of snow for a season, they will rise again cheating a cold grave and assuring final victory.

This view just takes my breath away. And at the foot of those majestic mountains lies the heart of Americana. Wow...! v

So true, Mary. Of course, there is a lot of heart out on the islands of Hawaii, isn't that right?
