Description
"It's the Eye of the Tiger,
it's the thrill of the fight,
Rising up to the spirit of our rival,
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night,
And he's watching us all
With the Eye of the Tiger.
The song "Eye of the Tiger" was released in 1982 by the 70's/80's American rock band called "Survivor". It was written at the request and assistance of Sylvester Stallone as a theme and training slogan for Rocky III and was released the day after the movie. The song was very popular from the beginning and has been used in numerous movies, TV shows, advertisements, and etc. Now having become a pop culture touchstone and motivational motto, it is still frequently used in sports, physical therapy, marathons, weightlifting, and by individuals facing any type of extreme challenge.
I believe that this idiom was and still is used to sincerely convey the sentiment - Rise up, go the distance/put forth the effort to get back the cutting edge/advantage and hunger/passion to survive and/or to succeed however difficult the challenge is perceived to be. Just as we know the tenacious tiger has had to be to survive.
I gleaned this meaning from the statements made in the internet post by the American rock band called "Survivor" and from the movie itself. The original song by the title, "The Eye of the Tiger", was written by members of this band at the request and with the assistance of Sylvester Stallone as a theme and training slogan for Rocky III.

Dale Jackson replied:
THX, Robert! I studied a lot of photos and regular Bengal tigers seem to have from yellow to yellow-green eyes; so, I left them very green to really emphasize them.
