Description
Weymouth Lifeboat Station is one of the busiest Lifeboat stations on the coast, undertaking around 100 ‘shouts’ a year, split equally between ‘Ernest and Mabel’ (Severn class Lifeboat) and ‘Phyl Clare III’ (Atlantic 75) covering 1330 square nautical miles.
Like every Lifeboat Station in the UK and Ireland we are run and funded by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, an organisation funded entirely through voluntary contributions.
Weymouth lifeboats are ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a doctor if required, to go to the aid of those who find themselves in danger at sea. The lifeboats work closely with the coastguards and their helicopter as and when the need arises. Since the lifeboat station opened in 1869 Weymouth lifeboats have launched some 1700 times and have saved over 800 lives.
Weymouth station has a full time coxswain and mechanic plus 23 volunteer crew to man the ALB and ILB. A list of all crew members and previous coxswain can be found by clicking the appropriate menu links.
