Description
There are many stories woven into the golden petals of the Black-eyed Susan, each shimmering with the warmth of sunshine and the whispers of the wind. I look forward to these beautiful flowers each summer in my backyard garden in Yarmouth Maine. Here are a few:
The Sun's Daughter: In a time before memory, the Sun had a daughter, her laughter echoing through the heavens. One day, she yearned to touch the earth, to dance with the wind and paint the meadows with her joy. The Sun, heartbroken but filled with love, let her fall in showers of golden light. Where she touched the ground, Black-eyed Susan's bloomed, forever carrying her laughter and sunshine in their hearts.
The Lost Love: A young woman named Susan waited on the windswept cliffs, her eyes the color of the distant sea, searching for her sailor love. When news of his ship's wreck reached her shores, her tears fell like a summer rain. Where they touched the earth, Black-eyed Susan's blossomed, each golden head a beacon of her unwavering hope, forever watching the horizon for his return.
The Whispering Meadow: In a hidden meadow, sheltered by whispering pines, lived a tribe of fairies. The Black-eyed Susan's were their dancing floor, their golden petals like tiny trumpets summoning the wind to play his joyful melody. The fairies danced until the stars appeared, leaving behind rings of laughter that mingled with the morning dew, carried on the wings of butterflies.
The Seeds of Courage: A young warrior lay wounded on the battlefield, his strength fading with the sunlight. A little girl, braver than any soldier, crawled through the dust and fear, bringing him a handful of Black-eyed Susan's. Their bright faces cheered him, their chocolate eyes whispered courage, and with renewed strength, he rose to fight again.
These are just a few threads in the tapestry of the Black-eyed Susan's story. Each bloom holds a whispered song, a secret yearning, a ray of sunshine waiting to touch your heart. So the next time you see them, listen closely. Perhaps you'll hear the laughter of the Sun's daughter, the hope of a lost love, the whispers of the fairies, or the seeds of courage carried on the wind.
And remember, you can add your own verse to their story. Plant some seeds, watch them dance in the breeze, and let your own dreams bloom with the Black-eyed Susan's. My Black eyed Susan's give me such joy because they attract so many wonderful insects from honey bees, hummingbirds and many different species of butterflies.
