We had spent a couple of days looking for this herd of elephants on the Sabi Sands Game Reserve near Kruger National Park. On this particular morning we would be told of a siting but when we arrived, there were none. Wildlife has free will to move as they please and this was no exception. After several attempts at different locations we found them! They were on the move, in a hurry and they were heading towards water. There was little time to watch them without chasing them through the bush. We did manage to find them again and capture a few other nice shots that you will find in our wildlife gallery.
Elephants are herd animals with a clear social structure. The matriarch, the oldest female will lead them. Each herd is made of most females and their offspring. Male elephants stay with the herd until they approach adulthood and then move on becoming more solitary.
