Description
Eat a Peach is the third studio album of the American rock band The Allman Brothers Band. The album was released on February 12, 1972 in the USA by Capricorn Records. After the released of their artistic and commercial breakthrough of the live album At Fillmore East in 1971 many in the band struggled with heroin addiction. Shortly after leaving rehab the group founder Duane Allman died at 24 in a motorcycle accident making it the final album to feature the guitarist.
Eat a Peach was a double album with a mix of studio recordings and the live recording of the song Mountain Jam which appeared on side two and side four of the record set for a total time of 34:43 minutes. The title came from a quote by Duane Allman: “You can't help the revolution because there's just evolution... Every time I'm in Georgia I eat a peach...the two legged Georgia variety.”
The album was an immediate success and peaked at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Pop albums Chart. It was later certified Platinum and remained a top seller in the bands discography.
At the time the group consisted of: Duane Allman, guitar – Dickey Betts, guitar – Greg Allman, keyboards – Barry Oakley, bass guitar – Jai Johanny Johanson, drums, congas – and Butch Trucks, drums, percussion.
