Description
My fascination with dunes continues. We spent three days at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado. The beauty of the dunes and the mountains in the background is magnificent. My strong preference is to create an abstract, or as Ansel Adams preferred to say, an "extract", when faced with geomorphic features such as sand dunes. This image is a good example of extracting a simple scene but with impact. I was attracted to the contrasts not only of light but also of shapes. The lower dune edge is very linear and sharp while the shadow cast upon the dune behind is curved and diffuse.
